CAT replaced JMET for MBA admissions in IITs, earlier JMET was the entrance test required to be eligible to apply for MBA admissions in IITs. From 2012 onwards one can apply with a valid CAT score, IIT Madras was supposed to conduct JMET in the year 2012.

IIT Madras website notified as ” The Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) stands discontinued. Admission to the Post Graduate Management Degree Programmes (MBA/M.Mgmt) for 2012 – 2014 in six IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Roorkee) and IISc (Bengaluru) will be based on CAT 2011 score in place of JMET score. Further details regarding eligible educational qualifications and other criteria will be available in the website of Department of Management Studies IIT Madras.”

IITs being autonomous like the IIMs have the leverage to choose CAT entrance exam as a criteria, however IITs will have their own selection criteria which is independent and IIMs will not play any role in the selection criteria. JMET is replacing CAT in view of reducing burden on the student in taking multiple entrance exams, form filling, application cost etc.

If IITs consider CAT score it will only better the selection process and IITs can compete with IIMs in management education. Over the decades IITs are known for its quality education offerings in technical courses, it’s time IITs are thinking to have a double edge by bringing quality education in management as well.

Eligibility
The minimum qualification for appearing in MAST is MBA/PGDM or equivalent degree/diploma in management from a recognized University/Institute. The candidates who have passed on or after 2008 are only eligible.

A final year student can also appear provisionally. There is no minimum percentage requirement for taking the test.

Annamalai University offers five different programmes in Master of Business Administration. The programmes span areas like E-Business, International Business, Human Resource Management, Marketing Management, Financial Management etc. Apart from the regular full time programs, there are several part time and executive level programs as well. Executive programs (of one year duration) are those specifically catered to meet the requirements of working top level executives of companies.

Eligibility and Duration

Candidates who wish to enroll in MBA programmes in this university must have a graduate except 10+2+2 pattern. The minimal duration for all the MBA programmes would be two years and maximum within seven years.

Syllabus

The syllabus for the programmes will differ depending upon the program chosen. The syllabus for all the programmes would be broadly classified in to first year syllabus and second year syllabus. Normally the first year syllabus covers core concepts of Management and the second year deals with electives. For example few electives include International Business Management, International Accounting, Organizational Behavior, Information Technology, E commerce and Human Resources management. The medium of communication across these MBA programmes would be English and optionally in Tamil.

Well, it is sure that you will get a search result page full of different links when you “Google” on how to beat or crack an MBA exam. Not surprisingly, it is logical as MBA is a degree which can make a graduate shine apart in the global market. Cracking it, contrary to the popular belief and faith, can be far less difficult than you would have imagined.

All it asks for is your aptitude towards management and love for organisation. Talking at a more ground level, it needs you to be quick (time management), accurate (efficiency), logically reasonable and with a good command over interactive language. Thereby the exam seeks to find how much you have to make a good Manager out of you. The only thing which keeps it tough, or at least make it ‘look’ tough, is Competition. Competition is a factor which you anyway cannot ignore as it is this factor which you will have to manage the most!

Cracking an MBA test is a mini-management exercise itself. Here, you have to manage yourself, your social lives, and your studies.

Though everyone can provide you with tips on how to crack an MBA exam, it is you who has to take an initiative.

Although, some good practises include, but are limited to:

• Checking out previous years’ question papers (if available) and analyzing them to find out the pattern of the questions.
• Managing (yes! Here it comes) your time, so you have ample time for your social network along with regular (that’s the key word) studies.
• Self Study is important.
• Stress management is priority. You should be able to decide how much you can take and deliver. Also, you should be able to work under pressure without letting stress take you out.

Besides these, an open, alert mind is needed during the exam. For that it is advisable to take up ample amount of sleep especially on the night before the exam.

The Maharashtra Government has decided to fill 15,000 MBA seats which are lying vacant across the state through admissions to the course sans the Common Entrance Test (CET). The decision was taken recently by Higher and Technical Education Department enabling graduates from any faculty to take admission for the MBA course, based on their degree marks, without appearing for the mandatory CET. There are over 40,000 MBA seats in Maharashtra.

Despite CET and four rounds of Common Admission Process (CAP) about 15,000 seats remained vacant this academic year. The Directorate of Technical Education has issued a notification in this regard which say that priority would remain for students clearing CET for MBA course admissions.

The notification also clearly says that no injustice should be done with students while implementing the decision, else action would be taken by the government against institutions and organisations. Even the admission process has been extended till September 25 for students seeking to enter MBA course.

Notification  for Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Delhi University MBA admissions is out, marking December 5, 2010 as the date for the FMS Entrance Test.

For the MBA fulltime (MBA-FT), you need to have at least a 3-year Bachelor’s Degree programme after twelve years of formal schooling. The minimum percentage required in the Bachelor’s degree differs according to disciplines like so:
– Arts, Commerce or Social Sciences: 50%
– Sciences: 55%
– Mathematics or Statistics: 60%
– Medicine, Engineering or Technology: 60% or CGPA of at least 6 on a scale of 10
– Post Graduate Degree or a second Bachelor’s Degree after 10+2+3: 60%

Candidates from reserved categories will have a 5% marks relaxation in each discipline.

Those who are going to finish their Bachelor’s degrees in 2011 too can apply, provided they can produce their marksheets satisfying the eligibility criteria by October 1, 2011.

The FMS will be following an online application process as mentioned on their website.The registration process is not an entirely online one as in the case of the CAT, as you will have to send an Acknowledgment Form along with your photo and caste documents by snailmail. You need to register and send the acknowledgment form before the last date October 15, 2010.

Until now, FMS used to offer two different MBA programmes — the MBA FT (Fulltime) and an MBA in Management of Services (MS). Starting 2011, the two programmes would be merged and offered as MBA (Fulltime).
