One of the most popular professional choices made by students today is MBA (Masters in Business Administration). Competition to get into a prestigious MBA institute is increasingly becoming fierce. But getting an entry into a premium Business school for pursuing MBA is not all that simple. Students need to put in immense amount of commitment and some solid work to clear the entrance examinations. The cut throat competition further extends to subsequent rounds of group discussion and the interview. All over the world, several entrance level examinations are taken by business schools for the purpose of choosing best of the lot across the nations.

Entrance examinations determine the score of the student based on various parameters of quantitative aptitude, reasoning and logical capabilities, general knowledge and language competency. These tests assess a candidate’s all round abilities like, numerical abilities, speed, accuracy, language proficiency and basics. Based on entrance examination score, students are chosen for subsequent stage of assessment that is group discussions and personal interviews. Group discussions often comprises of a select group of students, ranging from four to twelve. The students are given a certain topic and are asked to contribute in the relevant discussion in a fixed time frame. Group discussion focuses on analyzing and evaluating candidates’ communication skills. It also helps in scrutinizing students approach towards concurrent issues, his ability to participate in team discussions and whether he is proactive or reactive. Group discussions also give a fair glance into student’s confidence level by judging how strongly he manages to convey his point of view.

The final round is called personal interview round. In this concluding stage of assessment, candidate’s personal profile and qualifications are thoroughly tested. Other elements that occupy center stage in personal interview are students’ academic records, work experience (if any), steady performance, references, family background among other things. Bigger the college name, tougher the admission standards are. To get through all these procedures requires high level of competency and an all round personality.
