(iii) Statistical tables may be supplied on demand.

SECTION A

1. A group operates a chain of filling stations in each of which are employed cashiers, attendants and mechanics as shown below.

Type of filling stations
Large Medium Small
Casheirs 4 2 1
Attendants 12 6 3
Mechanics 6 4 2

The number of filling stations are

Southern India Northern India
Large Stations 3 7
Medium Stations 5 8
Small Stations 12 4

How many of the various types of staff are employed in Southern India and in Northern India ?

2. Find the inter quartile range from the following data :

Class Interval Frequency
0 – 15 8
15 – 30 26
30 – 45 30
45- 60 45
60 – 75 20
75 – 90 17
90 -105 4

3. The members of a consulting firm rent cars from three rental agencies , 60 percent from agency 1, 30 percent from agency 2 and 10 percent from agency 3. If 9 percent of cars from agency 1 need a tune-up, 20 percent of the cars from agency 2 need a tune-up and six percent of the cars from agency 3 need a tune-up, what is the probability that a rental car delivered to the firm will need a tune-up?

4. A soft drink vending machine is set so that the amount of drink dispensed is a random varlable with a mean of 200 ml and a standard deviation of 15 ml. What is the probability that the average (mean) amount dispensed in a random sample of size 36 is at least 204 ml ?

5. What is a Normal Distribution ? Mention the properties of Normal Distribution. Discuss when Normal Disiribution is a good approximation to Binomial Distribution.

6. Write short notes on any three of the following :
(a) Derivative of a quotient of two funciions
(b) Guidelines for choosing the Class lnterval
(c) Criterion of Pessimism
(d) Stratified Sampling
(e) Cyclical variation in Time Series

SECTION B

7. Preference prices and debenture prices of a certain company are given below :

Preference Prices (x) Debenture Prices
73.2 97.8
85.8 99.2
78.9 98.8
75.8 98.3
77.2 98.5
81.2 96.7
83.8 97.1

Use the method of Rank Correlation to determine the relationship between preference prices and debenture prices.

8. The average marks of studen is in a class is 79. The standard deiviation is 5. If the marks are distributed normally, how many students, in a class of 200 did not receive marks behween 75 and 82 ?
Given :
P (0 ≤ z ≤ 0.7) = 0.2580
P (0 ≤ z ≤ 0.8) = 0.288
P (0 ≤ z ≤ 0.6) = 0.2257
